1Overview

This website and the services offered by Sathuranga Chanakyan Chess Academy are operated by Sathuranga Chanakyan Private Limited ("Academy", "we", "us", or "our"), a private limited company incorporated under the laws of India. By visiting our website, enrolling in our programs, or otherwise engaging with our services, you ("Student", "Parent", "Guardian", or "User") agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"), including any additional policies referenced herein.

If you are enrolling a minor, you as the parent or legal guardian accept these Terms on their behalf, represent that you have the authority to do so, and take full responsibility for the minor's participation and conduct.

Please read these Terms carefully before proceeding. If you do not agree to all the terms and conditions of this agreement, you may not enroll in or use our services.

2About the Academy

Sathuranga Chanakyan Chess Academy is a professional chess training institution headquartered at #147, Kadappa Road, Kolathur, Chennai - 600099. The Academy is dedicated to developing chess players from beginner to FIDE-rated and competitive levels through structured, level-wise coaching delivered by a trained team of coaches under the guidance of the Academy's founder, an Arena International Master and FIDE-rated player.

3Enrollment & Admission

3.1 Right of Admission

The Academy reserves the right of admission. Enrollment is open to children and adults regardless of gender, religion, region, or prior chess expertise, subject to seat availability and batch eligibility criteria.

3.2 Eligibility & Level Placement

Every new student is assessed — typically through a free or paid demo class — and placed into the appropriate level based on the Academy's Level Classification Table available in Fees structure and the final discretion of the assessing coach.

3.3 Enrollment Confirmation

Enrollment is confirmed only upon receipt of full applicable fees and completion of the registration form. Submission of a registration form alone does not guarantee a seat. If a batch is full, the student's name will be placed on a waitlist and the Academy will notify you when a suitable batch becomes available.

3.4 Enrollment is With the Institution

Enrollment is with the Academy as an institution and not with any individual coach. Fees paid are not tied to a specific coach, and the Academy reserves the right to change, substitute, or assign a substitute coach in the best interest of student progress and class continuity.

3.5 Accuracy of Information

You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration and to promptly update your contact and billing details. Providing false information may result in immediate termination of enrollment without a refund.

4Programs, Levels & Fees

4.1 Program Offerings

The Academy offers programs across the following levels: Absolute Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert, delivered in offline (Kolathur center), online, or hybrid formats at the Academy's discretion. Group classes and Online 1-on-1 private coaching are offered as separate program tracks.

4.2 Level Classification Reference

Student levels are determined with reference to a standard rating table maintained by the Academy, covering USCF/National, Lichess, and Chess.com ratings. These ranges are a practical guide for admissions and placement and may be adjusted based on playing strength and the coach's final assessment.

4.3 Fee Structure

Fees for offline classes, online group classes, and Online 1-on-1 Private Coaching are communicated separately to parents at the time of enrollment and are based on the student's level, admission category, and program format. The current fee structure is available on request from the Academy and is reviewed periodically as outlined in Section 4.5 below.

4.4 Payment Methods

The Academy accepts the following payment methods:

• Bank transfer (NEFT/RTGS/IMPS) to the Academy's designated bank account
• Online payments via UPI, debit/credit cards, and net banking through our authorized payment gateway
• Cash payments at the Academy's registered premises (an official receipt will be issued for all cash payments)

After payment, kindly share the payment screenshot or reference and mention the student's name in the payment reference, to ensure prompt confirmation of enrollment.

4.5 Fee Revision

Course fees may be revised by the Academy at any time. Any revision will not affect students already enrolled in an active program for the duration already paid for. Revised fees will apply to new enrollments, renewals, and upgraded programs. Students will be informed in advance of any pricing changes wherever applicable.

4.6 Advance Payment & Mid-Month Joining

Monthly and quarterly coaching fees are payable in advance to confirm or continue enrollment. Where a student joins after the 10th of any month, fees for the subsequent month may be collected in advance along with the current month's fee.

5Code of Conduct

All students and their parents/guardians are expected to maintain a respectful, disciplined, and positive environment. The following conduct is prohibited:

• Disrespectful, abusive, or threatening behaviour towards coaches, staff, or fellow students
• Cheating, copying, or use of unauthorized assistance during assessments or tournaments
• Unauthorized recording, photography, or distribution of Academy content
• Repeated disruptive or uncooperative conduct during online or offline sessions
• Use of Academy premises or digital platforms for any unlawful purpose

For online classes, students are expected to maintain a quiet, distraction-free learning environment and keep their camera switched on during sessions, where instructed by the coach. Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in a warning, suspension, or permanent termination of enrolment, without refund of fees already paid.

6Communication Policy

All official communication regarding scheduling, fees, and academy updates will be conducted through the Academy's approved channels (WhatsApp groups, registered email, or official phone numbers). Coaches are not to be contacted directly through personal phone numbers or social media for administrative matters. This policy ensures consistent record-keeping and fair treatment of all students.

7Intellectual Property

All content provided by the Academy — including training materials, video recordings, study notes, worksheets, chess puzzles, and curriculum design — is the exclusive intellectual property of Sathuranga Chanakyan Private Limited. Copying, recording, redistributing, reselling, or reusing this content in any form, for personal or public use, is strictly prohibited without our prior written consent.

Students are granted a limited, non-transferable, personal licence to use provided materials solely for their own learning purposes during the period of active enrollment.

8Use of Student Achievements for Publicity

Sathuranga Chanakyan Private Limited may publish a student's name, photograph, game footage, and chess achievements on the Academy's website and social media platforms to recognize accomplishments and for promotional purposes. Parents or guardians who do not wish for this may submit a written opt-out request to support@sathurangachanakyan.com at any time, as further described in our Privacy Policy.

9Online Classes & Technology

For online or hybrid programs, students are responsible for ensuring a stable internet connection and a compatible device. The Academy is not liable for disruptions in service caused by network issues on the student's end. Sessions may be recorded for quality assurance, review, and to help students catch up on missed lessons, at the Academy's discretion. Students may access such recordings for personal learning purposes only and must not share, distribute, or republish them.

10Tournaments & External Events

The Academy may facilitate participation in FIDE-rated tournaments and state, national, or international competitions. Participation in external events is optional unless stated otherwise. Tournament registration fees, travel, and accommodation are borne by the student unless explicitly covered by the Academy. The Academy does not guarantee specific results, ratings, or tournament placements from participation or training.

11Optional Tools & Third-Party Links

The Academy may provide access to third-party tools, platforms, or links (such as learning management systems, Lichess, Chess.com, or payment gateways) over which we do not have full control. Use of such tools is at your own risk and discretion, and you should review the terms of the relevant third-party provider.

12Liability Disclaimer

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Sathuranga Chanakyan Private Limited shall not be liable for:

• Any injury, accident, or loss occurring on Academy premises or during Academy-facilitated events, beyond the Academy's reasonable control
• Loss of data, technical failures, or service interruptions on digital learning platforms
• Outcomes of competitive chess play, including ratings, rankings, or tournament results
• Any indirect, consequential, or incidental damages arising from the use of the Academy's services

Information made available on our website is provided for general information only and should not be solely relied upon for decision-making. Any reliance on such material is at your own risk.

13Termination

The Academy reserves the right to terminate a student's enrollment at any time for reasons including, but not limited to: non-payment of fees, violation of the Code of Conduct, or circumstances beyond the Academy's control. Students or parents may voluntarily withdraw from a program subject to the Cancellation & Refund Policy.

14Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Sathuranga Chanakyan Private Limited and its coaches, staff, and affiliates from any claim or demand arising out of your breach of these Terms or violation of any applicable law or third-party rights.

15Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms shall first be attempted to be resolved amicably through direct communication. If unresolved within 30 days, disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

16Severability

If any provision of these Terms is determined to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable, that provision shall be enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by law, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

17Amendments

The Academy reserves the right to update, change, or replace any part of these Terms at any time by posting the updated version on our official website. Your continued use of or enrollment with the Academy following such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
